Victoria Justice has revealed that she suffers from a thyroid autoimmune disorder. The "Eye Candy" actress opened up about her struggles with Hashimoto's in an interview in the November issue of Health magazine.
"A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is a thyroid autoimmune disorder," says the 22-year-old actress, according to Health magazine.
Hashimoto's disease is a thyroid autoimmune disorder, which can lead to an underactive thyroid gland and affect the metabolism, cause acne and weight fluctuations, according to People. "All my life I've always had great skin, so it was really devastating," Justice says.
"Also, at first, I was losing a lot of weight, then I went on tour and I started gaining weight, and it was the most I'd ever gained in my life. I was, like, 115 pounds. Then when I filmed a movie last summer, I actually went under 100 pounds," she adds.
Justice also stated that the changes in her skin affected her confidence and made her a little bit more self-conscious, but her loved ones helped her through the ordeal.
"I had the support of my family and friends. I knew that the people around me had my back. Now I really empathize with people who have issues with their skin, because it can get you down."
The actress mentioned that although she's still suffering from the disease, she is "back to normal."
"It was crazy, but things have leveled out," she says. "I'm not on medication. I feel good."
Justice went on to reveal simple ways she keeps her health in check like exercise, taking daily vitamins and a 10-minute meditation session daily.
"To be honest, I used to hate working out, but as I've gotten older, I've realized that it gives me so much more energy, and it just makes me feel so much better," she says.
Justice adds that one of her favorite workouts is twerking.
Yes, you heard that right.
"I'm not kidding. It's actually a really great workout. After 10 minutes of twerking, your thighs and your butt feel it right away," she says. "But it's so much fun. You feel free. It's like, 'Who cares? I'm twerking!'"
Last year, "Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez was diagnosed with the thyroid autoimmune disorder, as HNGN previously reported.
