So, it finally happened. After all the build up to Ziva’s (Cote de Pablo) departure from the show it finally happened on Tuesday.

If I’m being honest—it was sort of ho hum. However, there was one thing I had to keep reminding myself while watching Ziva’s Farewell:

Tthe writing and production team had a little bit of time to close the book on a major character.

That became more and more visible as the episode progressed.

It seemed like the writers were going to go one way with the season finale last season—as viewers were left with Gibbs pointing a sniper rifle at Fornell’s (Joe Spano) head—and they didn’t want to stray from that path. So what was the result? A terror plot that could have been foiled in one episode and the climax of a love story that came out of nowhere.

It was almost painful to watch Gibbs (Mark Harmon), McGee (Sean Murray) and Fornell investigate a crime together. Without Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva it was a little weird.

Where Ziva's and Tony’s story was concerned, I must admit there was some nice moments. However, it was a little hard to see them just go from teasing each other to hopelessly in love in just a few episodes. Also, the two-month time jump to where Tony has found Ziva was not comfortable. However, like I said before, I had to keep reminding myself that this was put together on short notice.

The other major point of contention I had was the lack of Ziva time got in the second episode. After she was non-existent in the first episode, it was a bit annoying that we didn’t see her for more than 20 minutes in the second one. Now, I understand the possible situation. De Pablo may not have been available for the entire episode let alone both episodes. Nevertheless, fans would have like to see more of her.

Finally the kiss. It was good but all the pictures before hand may have ruined the moment. Nevertheless, it was nice to finally get some closure for the Ziva and Tony relationship.

Hopefully, de Pablo is able to come back to “NCIS” some day. For now, let’s hope Gibbs and his team can move on without her.

“NCIS” airs Tuesday, 8/7c on CBS.
