In response to criticism of its "On This Day" feature bringing up photos from the past that many users would rather not see, Facebook is introducing filters to allow users to remove specific individuals and dates from the feature, according to the Verge.

"We know that people share a range of meaningful moments on Facebook," said a Facebook spokesperson in a statement. "As a result, everyone has various kinds of memories that can be surfaced — good, bad, and everything in between. So for the millions of people who use 'On This Day,' we've added these filters to give them more control over the memories they see."

When the feature was first introduced, Facebook tried to introduce precautions for the above problems, one being the omission of previous romantic partners. However, these efforts were not enough and many complained about being confronted with photos of deceased relatives and other memories of past tragedy, according to ABC News.

The new controls can be accessed by going to your "On This Day" page, clicking on preferences and then entering any individuals or dates that you would like to have filtered out, according to Tech Crunch.
