Besides the parties, the candies, tricks, treats and the spooky decorations, there is something else you can do to keep yourself in the Halloween mood. Curl up in your reading corner, set the reading lamp and chill on a breezy autumn night with these choices of scary books:

1.) "Prince Lestat" by Anne Rice

When it comes to vampire novels, Anne Rice writes it best. "Prince Lestat" is part of her "Vampire Chronicles" series, and centers on a favorite character, Lestat de Lioncourt. This book became a The New York Times best-seller in November 2014.

2.) "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson

It's always good to reread a classic and the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, despite being retold and adapted many times over, continues to be interpreted in many different ways, according to The Guardian. It's an interesting case study on the human psyche.

3.) "Creepy Carrots!" by Aaron Reynolds

If you're planning on holding a Halloween reading session with the kids, this book is a good suggestion. It's a picture book with both scary and silly bits that won't leave the children scarred. It received a 4.8 out of 5 rating from Barnes and Nobles users.

4.) "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub

This isn't your typical scary ghost story, as the plot is multi-layered, featuring four old men who are bothered by their pasts. This book is also a favorite classic and one of the best horror stories to be published, according to Amazon reviews.

5.) "A Tale Dark and Grimm" by Adam Gidwitz
