UPDATE 11:10 a.m.: The suspect behind the shooting that left one dead and three injured has been identified authorities as 18-year-old Steven Jones, according to the Associated Press.

The shooting occurred 1:20 a.m. Friday when Jones and a group of friends got into an argument with another group of people that quickly escalated into gunfire.

A shooting occurred Friday morning at the Northern Arizona University's (NAU) Flagstaff campus, according to the spokesperson of the university, the shooter is already in custody.

One person was killed and three were wounded during the incident, the spokesperson added, according to ABC News.

The shooting happened near the Mountain View Hall dormitories within the Flagstaff campus. University authorities alerted students through Twitter at 10.29 a.m. GMT that advised students to stay indoors, the International Business Times reported.

People have criticized the university for not sending out alerts earlier. The staff only disseminated the notice an hour after the incident happened. The motive of the shooter is still not clear and authorities have released only a few details, Heavy reported.

There is no confirmation whether the victims are students. The three wounded people are being treated at Flagstaff Medical Center. There are more than 20,000 students enrolled in Northern Arizona University's Flagstaff campus.
