Speaker of the House John Boehner pulled out of Jimmy Fallon's lineup after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy dropped out of the running race for Speaker of the House on Thursday, according to Deadline.

Once McCarthy shocked Washington with his news of choosing not to replace Boehner, the House of Representative's rules mandated that Boehner remain speaker until a new person is elected, Deadline noted.

As a result, Boehner, who was booked for Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight Show," will leave a vacancy in the stellar lineup. Thursday night's guest list includes Lena Dunham and "Scandal" star Darby Stanchfield.

After McCarthy walked out of the nomination vote meeting on Capitol Hill in Washington on Thursday, Boehner said that he'll stay Speaker of the House until the House votes on his successor, reported U.S. News.

According to The Associated Press, Boehner issued a statement reiterating his previous pledge to resign from the House at the end of October.

NBC has yet to reveal who or if anyone will replace Boehner's spot on the "Tonight Show" which, airs at 11:30pm EST on NBC weeknights.
