Carey Mulligan and her husband Marcus Mumford have welcomed their first child into the world, according to E! News. The new mom already made her first post-baby red carpet appearance at the British Film Institute's London Film Festival.

"Carey has given birth to a healthy and happy baby," a source tells E! News. "She is just enjoying this time with her family and close friends."

The actress and the Mumford and Sons singer revealed Mulligan's pregnancy in June, reported Us Weekly. Rumors first started appearing about her growing tummy at the 2015 Tony Awards when the actress tried to hide her bump in a long and loose fitting blood red gown. The two tied the knot back in April 2012 in a private ceremony inside a barn in Bridgewater, England.

"I've always wanted to be a mother. I love what I do, but I'm excited for this next phase of my life," Mulligan recently told Elle Magazine.

While it is not clear exactly when the famously private star gave birth, she made her first post-baby appearance on the red carpet at the London Film Festival to promote "Suffragette." She did not discuss her new child and did not reveal the gender or name.

"Suffragette" stars Mulligan and Meryl Streep and tells the story about the British women's suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Streep and Mulligan came under fire when they wore a T-shirt on the cover of Time Out London that read "I'd rather be a rebel than a slave." Many people found the shirts racially insensitive. The quote was from a speech given by suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst at a London rally in 1913.
