A moment of trepidation and fear struck a group of Chinese tourists while walking on the Yuntaishan glass plank in China on Monday.

The tourists were about 3,540 feet up on the Yuntai Mountain, which is located in the Henan Province, when the crystal-clear walkway shattered under their feet, reported Daily Mail. The Henan Province is well known for the scenic landscapes, which was why the Sky Bridge has been built in this particular location.

According to a Henan Yuntaishan Scenic Area official, at 4:05 p.m., a Yuntaishan Scenic Area Administration Security Officer found that the glass cliff walkway had cracked. To ensure safety, the administration temporarily closed the glass cliff, and an organization of security experts searched to find the cause.

The investigation by the department confirmed that one of the three panes of glass cracked, caused by external forces. Despite the design allowing one pane to crack and the glass to still be safe, to ensure that visitors were 100 percent safe and secure, Yuntaishan Scenic Area Authority decided to suspend the glass plank site immediately after the opening, to be repaired, according to People's Daily.

A spokesman for the Yuntai Mountain Scenic Spot explained that the tourists were safe, even though the walkway had cracked, only one layer out of the three protective layers was cracked from a stainless steel mug that had been dropped by a previous tourist. The layers of the glass walkway are made up of steel laminated bulletproof glass, according to China News Network.

The Yuntaishan glass plank had only been opened to the public since Sept. 20, but now the tourist attraction has been closed while crews work on repairs.
