Weather expert Al Roker of NBC apologized on Monday for his smiling selfie while he was covering one of the most devastating floods that hit South Carolina. Shown in his selfie was Roker with two of his crew - all smiles, while behind them was a car trapped on an almost demolished roadside.

"My crew and I getting ready to report on East Coast flooding from S. Carolina on @NBCNightlyNews with Kate Snow," captioned the photo. The tweeted photo has already been deleted, Fox News reported.

He has received numerous criticisms from disappointed social media users.

"Absolutely correct. I apologize for being insensitive. The woman in that car got out without injury. We should not have been in the picture," Roker apologized on his tweet, Fox News added. "We came down to report and I offended those who lost so much. I am sorry."

Snow, the other NBC reporter he tagged on his tweet did not respond or posted any comments on her social media account regarding the incident. After the barrage of negative reactions about his tweet, Roker clarified that the woman behind them during the selfie was taken, got out of her car unharmed, Newsday reported.

Roker went into a similar issue about a tweet he made in 2014 against New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. He did so for the Mayor did not close schools before a major snow storm, according to USA Today.
