A new video from Canada-based group AsapScience says that your outlook on life might actually be genetic and could possibly affect your life expectancy.

AsapScience has a channel on YouTube and it posts videos on various topics and studies. This one explores the affect genes have on mood, outlook and the facilitation of serotonin, the hormone associated with happiness.

The oxytocin receptor gene - or the love hormone - can be either long or short, and that small change could be the difference in whether you focus on the good or the bad in this world, according to the Daily Mail.

A long allele indicates that a person might be happier or more likely to view the world positively. For example, a person with a short allele who would most likely view a glass as half-empty vs. someone with a longer allele seeing the glass as half-full.

Both have their advantages, as those who are positive tend to be inclined to do well academically, while the pessimistic are more cautious and less likely to make serious mistakes that could lead to injury.

The video explaining the differences and factors has gotten about 700,000 views and has topped YouTube's top 100 list, according to the Inquisitr.

In the past, AsapScience has made similarly interesting and viral videos, answering questions like "community college vs. Harvard" or "whether masturbation is actually good for you at all."
