Verizon Wireless unintentionally allowed customers to upgrade their old smartphone for a new one online without losing out on their unlimited data plans, but the carrier likely figured out the glitch and fixed it within a day after it went viral.

Verizon Wireless, leading network carrier in the U.S., had some technical hiccup in its website that allowed customers to upgrade their smartphones without losing their unlimited data plans. Verizon discontinued its unlimited data plans some time ago and has been luring customers to buy new deals by  offering subsidized smartphones upgraded.

It is a known fact that several customers have long held on to the attractive unlimited data plans without accepting any new deals, but a small glitch on Saturday gave new hope to Verizon customers. Several users upgraded to new phones when they had the chance. But the biggest question is will Verizon let those customers keep their unlimited data plans when the phones arrive in the next few days? I guess we will have to wait to find out. But those who chose in-store pick up and successfully activated their phones, they just got lucky and hence, congratulations are in order.

According to Driod-Life, a Verizon customer rep confirmed that the carrier did not make any changes to its current data plans. This was when the tech news site was attempting to purchase a new smartphone and surprisingly found that the unlimited data plan was not altered.

Verizon did not take long before fixing the bug, which let customers bypass the option to change their data plan during an upgrade. The reason behind the error is not clear as the company did not officially confirm the glitch nor disclosed what is their next move.

But even if Verizon surprises the newly upgraded customers by changing their data plans, the carrier must allow customers to change back to their old unlimited data plan by returning the new phone, if necessary, or at least honor the changes. After all it isn't customers' fault in any way.
