The "Serial" podcast is heading to television! The writing and producing team of Chris Miller and Phil Lord and Fox 21 Television Studios have optioned the rights to Sarah Koenig's podcast phenomenon, according to Deadline.

The plan for the new television show is to create a cable series based on the experience of making the successful podcast. The case for the show is still to be determined, but the case will not concentrate on the murder of Hae Min Lee by Adnan Syed like the first season of the "Serial" podcast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lord and Miller are huge fans of the podcast and will executive produce the series along with "Serial" podcast host Koenig and producer Julie Snyder.

"Chris and Phil take an unexpected approach to telling stories and that is so appealing to us at Serial," Snyder says. "Developing a show with them is exciting because we feel like we speak the same language, only they're smarter than us."

After the crazy successful first season of "Serial," Miller and Lord flew out to New York City to share their vision with the creative team behind the podcast.

"What you have here is a once every 10 years creative storytelling phenom with a once in 10 years take with a once in twenty-five years creative team. We are confident we'll attract a spectacular writer and look forward to pitching it to outlets very soon," Fox 21 TV Studios president Bert Salke says of "Serial."

News of the TV show comes about a week after reports that the second season of the "Serial" podcast would concentrate on the case of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the American soldier who disappeared from his post in Afghanistan under "mysterious circumstances" and was captured by the Taliban.
