CEO of the Clinton Foundation and former administrative cabinet secretary to Bill Clinton, Donna Shalala, suffered a stroke Tuesday night, according to USA Today. The foundation released a statement on Wednesday stating that her prognosis is "very encouraging."

The 74-year-old is currently seeking medical treatment in a New York hospital after falling ill Tuesday night at the Clinton Global Initiative, according to the New York Times.

Shalala has been a part of the Clinton campaign for years, dating back to 1993 when she was nominated as secretary for health and human services by former President Bill Clinton, according to CNN. She held this position for eight years.

Earlier this year, she joined the Clinton Foundation, becoming the leader of the nonprofit organization, according to CNN.

An email from former Bill Clinton was sent out after Shalala was taken to the hospital.

"As some of you may have heard, Donna suffered a stroke this evening after CGI. Fortunately, she was with colleagues at the time and taken to the hospital for treatment. Initial reports are very encouraging. We will continue to share updates as we know more. Please join Hillary, Chelsea and me in keeping Donna in your thoughts and prayers," it read, according to the New York Times.

Bill Clinton visited her at the hospital late Tuesday afternoon, where she seemed to be in good spirits, according to the New York Times.

There is no word yet on when she will be released.
