Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-Cali.) talked about his ambitions to become speaker of the House on Tuesday, according to CBS News. McCarthy is the current House majority leader, and held a press conference to talk about the job opening he'd like to take highlighting the differences between him and resigning speaker, John Boehner.

McCarthy officially made a case for himself on Monday, writing a letter to talk about his leadership style. He also appeared on "CBS This Morning" to talk about the job. Boehner is expected to leave the House in October.

"We want to make sure that we're closer to the people, that they feel this is their government, they're in charge and we serve them," McCarthy said during a Tuesday press conference, according to SFGate.

Other politicos have suggested Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) for the Speaker position. He is the current chairman of the House panel investigating Benghazi.

During the press conference, McCarthy talked about differences between himself and Boehner. "I won't be as tan," McCarthy said Tuesday, joking about Boehner's famously sun-kissed hue. "Look, I'm a little younger, but look, I know what's going on across the country and I'm concerned about what we hear," he said, according to CNN.
