Following the controversy that has been associated with Planned Parenthood, after the disclosure of allegedly selling fetal organs, it has become more positively regarded in public opinion than the GOP. Only 29 percent of Americans view the GOP as positive, while 41 percent view Planned Parenthood favorably, according to Tribune Washington Bureau. Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, spoke in front of Congress about the issues that have made many conservatives want to cut funding to the organization.

The two polls were conducted by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center, and the Wall St. Journal and NBC News, according to the Tribune.

"Basically, we're defunding women's health care," protests Erika Raney, 32, a business consultant from Los Angeles, according to USA Today. Though Planned Parenthood does abortions, supporters maintain it also provides health care to women in urban communities at an affordable rate.

This does not mean that American's opinions of abortion have changed. Fifty-one percent say abortions should be legal in all or most cases, and 43 percent say they should be illegal in all or most cases, the Pew poll found, according to the Tribune. American's split views on abortion has remained the same since the mid-90s.

Planned Parenthood gets approximately $450 million from the federal government, which cannot be used for abortions except in certain cases, according to NBC News. Richards has called the assault on Planned Parenthood a "smear campaign" and asserts she is still very proud of the organization despite previous controversies.
