Tension mounts between Gibbs and Tony this week on "NCIS" after the longtime colleagues left things at an impasse in their last conversation.

Gibbs (Mark Harmon) continues to recover from the shooting that kept him off active duty for several months and its consequences have left a strain between him and DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), which likely won't be relieved with a signature Gibbs slap to the back of the head.

On their latest case, Gibbs asks his team to help DEA Agent Luis Mitchell (John Gabriel) track down a wayward Marine. During the course of the investigation, Tony discovers a personal connection between Gibbs and Mitchell that will leave him questioning his boss' motives.

Let's just say, Gibbs doesn't take too kindly to that.

While the two headstrong agents butt heads, McGee (Sean Murray) and Bishop (Emily Wickersham) are more concerned with Gibbs' new sleeker look since returning to work. They work up a couple comparison photos between past and present Gibbs - dress shirt versus polo shirt and no more military haircut.

Tony, who usually delights in analyzing Gibbs behind his back, shames his fellow agents for their silly investigation, but when Gibbs mistakes Tony for the culprit of the photo display, it doesn't help matters between the two.

"NCIS" airs tonight at 8 p.m. on CBS.
