Manchester United could be a man short after January, but not because of an injury. Goalkeeper Victor Valdes is being targeted by Liverpool for a transfer deal to start off the new year, according to Bleacher Report. With three goalkeepers on United's roster, there is not much surprise that Valdes would be targeted by Liverpool, or other clubs.

Since resigning David De Gea earlier this month, United have not used Valdes in goal. While he is coming towards the end of his career, Valdes is still a terrific option to have between the posts. The Red Devils also have Sergio Romero, who is another top goalkeeper.

Valdes has been given chances to play with the reserves, however, he has not shown up for games and practices, according to Sky Sports. Behavior like that, will not have manager Louis Van Gaal is thrilled one bit.

With Valdes showing his lack of dedication toward United, it is only a matter of time before he will depart the club. Liverpool is a great option for Valdes, especially with their goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet, struggling early this season. After seven league games, Mignolet has allowed nine goals. Not the type of production that will win a Premier League title.

Liverpool has not started off 2015 on a strong note. Sitting in eighth place in the Premier League table, according to ESPN FC. After barely getting out of the third round of the Capital One Cup via penalty kicks against Carlisle, a mid-table fourth tier team in England. There is absolutely no reason Liverpool should not have demolished the little club, however, that was never the case. Because of this poor performance, it has raised more questions about the club's manager Brendan Rodgers and what can be done to stop the bleeding.

A move for Valdes by Liverpool seems likely, and would give United relief for removing a dressing room distraction. Liverpool need another player to challenge Mignolet for the starting job and Valdes seems like a perfect match. The January transfer window is going to be a lot of fun.
