James Gray, a passenger of the Dutch Airline KLM, was arrested and fined after he was accused of trying to open the airplane door 30,000 feet above ground.

When the Edinburgh to Amsterdam KLM flight arrived at Schipol Airport, Gray was immediately detained by police and was forced to spend the night in custody.

"The crew told me to stay in my seat and I was to be arrested when the plane landed. I tried to explain it was a simple mistake. It was a misunderstanding. The police came and arrested me. They weren't too friendly," Gray told the Telegraph.

It turned out that Gray mistook the plane's exit for the toilet and he vehemently denied that he did it on purpose. His claim was that he only touched the handle and would not deliberately open it while they were airborne.

"I realise the danger of that sort of thing," he said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Gray, who was from Scotland, found himself in deeper water as KLM promptly banned him from flying with them for five years. He was refused when he attempted to board for home and he had to borrow money for airfare because he spent all of it on the fine.

"I was charged and fined €600 ($671). I only had €750 ($840) with me so I had to borrow money for the rest of the stay over there" he said in a Mashable report.

It is still not clear if Gray would face charges for his actions in Scotland. KLM airlines has yet to release a statement about the incident.
