Manchester United attempted to sign Neymar da Silva Santos Junior over the summer, according to The Mirror. The Brazilian attacker came out recently confirming that United did pursue him over the summer months.

"We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete. I heard that there were offers but none were made to me" stated Neymar.

Since the deal fell through the cracks, there is new talks between the 23-year-old attacker and his current club Barcelona. Reports confirm that Neymar wants his weekly salary increased to £200,000. Yes, you read that right, £200,000 a week!

If that contract offer does become truth instead of rumor, Neymar would become the second highest paid player on the team next to Leo Messi. The Brazilian would leap frog Andres Inesta and Luis Suarez, players with more experience and proven track records. However, Barce knows what Neymar can produce and wants to reward him accordingly for his time and effort.

The thought of Neymar moving to the Premier League, especially Manchester United, begs comparisons between Cristiano Ronaldo and the Brazil star. It would give media folk something to constantly debate and cover, yet it would not be the defining factor of Neymar's career. The honest truth of playing in England is that it is not for everyone. Players with tremendous talent have failed miserably in the league but exceeded expectations in La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga.

Neymar belongs at Barcelona and he will receive the money he is asking for, otherwise the Spanish giant will forever regret letting the talented attacker walk free.
