Microsoft, which recently launched two new Surface tablets Monday, is reportedly working on a Mini Version of the two slated for a 2014 launch.

Former rumors had hinted at Microsoft releasing the Surface Mini by 2013 end but latest updates suggest that the second generation Surface Mini has been  postponed to 2014. "One of my sources who has been solid on Microsoft's roadmap in the past says the Surface Mini is coming, but not in calendar 2013. Supposedly, this source claims, Microsoft is going to launch the Surface Mini in early 2014. The reason? The Surface Mini is going to come preloaded with a Windows 8.1 update, that is codenamed "Spring 2014 GDR," reveals a recent post onZednet.

The reason behind the delay of the  Surface Mini is the inclusion of Windows 8.1 update for the device and the launch of Windows Phone 'Blue'.  So Microsoft may come up with a combined tri launch - Surface Mini, Blue and the Windows 8.1 update simultaneously in spring 2014.

The device may feature a 7.5-inches display with a 1400 X 1050 pixel resolution. The Surface Mini is likely to be powered by an ARM processor. Microsoft is sticking with ARM although it was not well received for the Surface as it apparently has a  better  battery life and price point, reports WpCentral.

Another reason for the delay is because the Redmond based tech giant is presently concentrating on the Xbox One operating system , releasing in November 2013. Additionally, Microsoft is also planning to make the Surface Mini a companion device for its upcoming console Xbox One.

Microsoft  has refused to comment on the release date for the Surface Mini for now stating "We don't have any additional products to announce today," reports pcworld although the Windows developer confirmed an LTE version of the recently launched Surface tablets by 2014.
