Samsung revealed its big plans Wednesday at a media event in Seoul about unveiling the first smartphone with curved glass display in October.

Samsung Electronics, world's largest smartphone maker, has revealed its plans to debut the next innovation in smartphones by integrating curved glass technology. Inventing curved and bendable screens can be a promising step toward the next generation of smartphones and tablets and once the technology is put into effect, a huge chunk of inquisitive consumers are bound to try them. Samsung, being the most profitable smartphone maker as of July, after taking the lead from Apple, a lot is expected from the firm.

Samsung is already ahead in bringing new technology to the market. The latest announcement confirms that the South Korean tech giant has no plans to let go of the dominance it has gained.  "We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October," D.J. Lee, Samsung's mobile business head of strategic marketing, said at an event launching the Galaxy Note 3 smartphone in Seoul Wednesday, according to Reuters.

Samsung Display is also one of the early launchers of curved display panel used in next generation OLED televisions. But, the company may face fierce competition from LG, which also launched its own curved OLED TV for $14,999, a lot more expensive compared to Samsung's $9000 offer. If Samsung proceeds with its plans to launch smartphones with curved display, we can expect the phones to get a new price range, much higher than the current high-end devices in the market.

Samsung showed off a prototype of flexible AMOLED screen at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2011 that can be related to the Wednesday's announcement. But the challenge will  be to produce the parts cheaply, as thin as a sheet and highly heat resistant. It will be remarkable to watch technology companies battle to bring out the best in them to rule the next gen of smartphone business.
