Ryan Reynolds has been a dad for about eight months, but his protective fatherly instincts are already in full gear.

In the October issue of GQ, Reynolds opened up about life as a father, and how he's had to make some serious sacrifices for his daughter James along the way, including cutting off a good friend.

"A guy I'd known for my whole life, one of my closest friends growing up, he had been shopping pictures of my baby around," the 38-year-old actor said. "I kind of got in front of it, which is good. But it was a slightly dark period. A bad couple of weeks. It was like a death. It was like one of those devastating things to find out."

He and his wife, Blake Lively, have been keeping their daughter's life very private and have yet to share any photos of her. When they first found out that the friend, who Reynolds had known his whole life, had been betrayed them, they did what they had to do and immediately confronted him.

"It was a pretty strongly worded conversation. [He did it] just for money," he said of the friend, who was one of the very few people he trusted with these photos. "It was, like, so kind of shocking. There isn't really a conversation to have. It's just like, 'Oh, well, now I'm never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately.'"

Besides this unfortunate incident, Reynolds is loving life as a dad. The two want to be the best parents they can be and spend as much time with James as possible. They have no intention of hiring a Nanny and are really just enjoying these moments.

"I have no problem waking up five times in the middle of the night and changing diapers, and as exhausted as you get, I have this stupid grin on my face all the time," he revealed. As for his "weirdly endless supply of patience," he explained that, "It's not because I have a nanny or something like that, It's just us right now, and I love it."
