Warner Bros. is adding another film to their DC Comics slate that already stretches to 2020. According to We Got This Covered, the studio is planning on adapting the little-known yet entertaining duo of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.

The film is reportedly a "lighthearted and comedic buddy cop movie" which differs mightily from the dark and grounded tone of the DC Extended Universe. Perhaps Warner Bros. is trying to simulate the success Marvel enjoyed with their off-beat, niche characters in "Guardians of the Galaxy/"

As of now, "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Supergirl" alum Greg Berlanti is being eyed to direct and executive producer the film.

For those of you that don't know, Booster Gold is described as "a football hero and celebrity in the 25th Century who became publicly disgraced after he was caught gambling on his own games. With his reputation tarnished, [Michael Jon] Carter stole super-powered relics from the past and traveled back in time, with the plan to become a famous superhero."

The Booster Gold character's current superhero contemporary is most likely Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. Both are brash and braggadocios yet also endearing and kindhearted.

The DC Extended Universe is already planting their seeds of connectivity with next year's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad" reportedly having some crossover elements. This direct approach may work a bit better than Marvel's entertaining yet ultimately hollow post-credits scenes. It's unclear how "Booster Gold" would fit into the larger picture, especially given the stark difference in tone.

Zak Penn ("Green Lantern") is rumored to be writing the script, though no release date details are known at this time. We'll keep you posted as more details begin to emerge.
