"NBC Nightly News" has named NBC News national correspondent Kate Snow as its new Sunday anchor, according to Variety. She will also anchor two hours on weekdays for MSNBC.

The move is part of a bigger plan to align NBC News and MSNBC under NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack. It could also bring Snow greater reporting opportunities in the future.

"Kate is a compassionate storyteller who approaches every assignment with equal parts determination and heart," Deborah Turness, President of NBC News, said in a statement (via Variety). "Her broad range as a journalist, skill as an anchor, and familiarity with our audience is sure to lead 'Nightly' to continued success on Sundays."

The new full-time "Nightly News" anchor Lester Holt previously held the position on Sundays.

Snow has previously filled-in as anchor for "Nightly News" and "Today." Before coming to NBC News in 2010, she worked as a weekend anchor for ABC's "Good Morning America" for six years. She also served as a White House Correspondent for ABC News and a Congressional Correspondent for CNN.

MSNBC is in the process of a major overhaul, recently cancelling three of its afternoon programs during the week. "Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd will host a show every weekday at 5 p.m. and Brian Williams will return to the air on Sept. 22 to anchor live breaking news.
