Just about a week ago, the Philadelphia 76ers retained the rights to Jordan McRae by offering him a tender in the form of a one-year deal that is non-guaranteed. After that offer was made it was expected that the 76ers would bring in McRae for training camp, but that doesn't look like it will happen. McRae has yet to accept the 76ers' offer and the team doesn't expect him to be in training camp, according to Michael Kaskey-Blomain of Around The Arc

This situation is not fully resolved yet, as it is still possible that McRae could have a change of heart and decide to attend camp, but the more likely outcomes seems like it will end with McRae not in camp. McRae was the 58th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and was given a similar contract offer last year but turned that down also. McRae spent last season playing in Australia, and he might very well be looking for opportunities overseas again.

The 76ers are expected to have some heavy competition in training camp as they are expected to bring 20 players in and a bunch on non-guaranteed contracts, so McRae may want more of a sure thing. If McRae decides to play abroad again, he will be making guaranteed money while developing his game. This could end up being a really good thing for the 76ers, even though they could use his scoring ability, because McRae will be getting playing time and developing his game while Philadelphia still has his rights. If he made the 76ers roster out of training camp playing time might be tough to come by, so another developmental year overseas could be the best case scenario here.

In terms of development, McRae didn't show much for the Sixers during the summer league where he only shot 29 percent from the field. The 76ers were hoping the 24-year-old would come in and impress them enough to force his way onto the roster and into minutes, but that didn't happen. McRae will now have another year to go abroad and work on his game, and if he comes back next summer and shows that he has improved then, the 76ers will be able to make him a contract offer more to his liking.
