Hungary has stepped up its border control efforts with armored personnel carriers, water cannons and tear gas, all in an attempt to control the mass crowd of migrants and refugees containing men, women and children.

As previously reported by HNGN, Hungary declared a state of emergency in regard to the immigration crisis it now faces, with around 10,000 or more immigrants being taken in on Monday alone.

Now, officials are saying that Hungary has reached its limit and have started to strictly control its borders.

At the Hungary-Serbia border the tension built for more than an hour as the large crowd stared down anti-riot police; allegedly the crowd began throwing bottles of water and rocks at officers until the police were forced to retaliate with tear gas and water cannons, according to the Independent.

A man carrying a baby were thought to be caught in the chaotic disarray caused by the tear gas, as well as several others who were treated for various injuries, according to the BBC.

"We fled wars and violence and did not expect such brutality and inhumane treatment in Europe,'' said a man from Iraq.

A razor laden wire fence has been built with harsh punishments for anyone who tries to destroy the barrier or overcome it, including detainment or deportation.

Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto defended Hungary's actions, saying that the country simply cannot economically support more people and that not all the immigrants were refugees. According to Szijjarto, some were actually economic immigrants.
