Tesco has entered the global tablet race with its first-ever 7-inch HD screen Android device ahead of Christmas to target Nexus 7 and iPad Mini buyers.

Big screen tablets have quickly gained dominance over the growing mobile market. Consumers often pick up their choice of tablets for various purposes such as, watching movies, playing games, working or even browsing the internet. The large screens give the comfort of a laptop while on-the-go. Leading smartphone makers like Samsung, Apple, Sony, Google and others launched their own tablets with attractive designs and specification to bring in more buyers. With tough competition, it is a challenge for every manufacturer to come up with best products at affordable costs.

To build up the competition, Tesco has launched its first ever tablet to compete with Google Nexus 7 and Apple iPad Mini. Hudl tablet sports a 7-inch 1440x990 resolution HD scratch resistant touch screen and runs on Google's Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The device is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz processor and includes 16GB internal storage and expandable up to 48GB via microSD card.

Tesco is targeting its more than 20 million customers by offering the tablet at a very affordable cost. Hudl  goes on sale for as low as $190, much cheaper than Nexus 7 and iPad Mini.

"Hudl is a colourful, accessible tablet for the whole family to enjoy," Tesco Chief Executive, Philip Clarke, said in a press release. "The first stage in our tablet offering, it's convenient, integrated and easy to use with no compromise on [specifications]. Customers are quite rightly very discerning about the technology they buy so we knew we had to be competitive on all fronts."

Tesco offers 9 hours of battery life and comes preloaded with apps such as YouTube, and its own Blinkbox video streaming service. The low cost strategy ahead of Christmas is clearly to lure away new buyers from the likes of Apple and Google, enticing them to jump in for something cheaper without losing on main features.

Tesco will offer Hudl  both online and in its retail stores, September 30, 2013. The device will be available in four different colors, black, red, purple and blue. Interested buyers can also spend the savers on tablet accessories such as soft touch cases in six different colors, leather cases, earphones, screen guards,in-car charger, micro-HDMI cable, bumper cases and headphones for kids.
