Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh is open to the idea of the Notre Dame rivalry game being resumed, according to Nick Baumgardner of mlive.com.

When asked about the rivalry being renewed Harbaugh said via mlive.com, "I'd probably have a conversation with coach Kelly about that before anyone else, that'd be the best course of action, but I would be open to it yes."

This came following Brian Kelly's interview with Rich Eisen last week, when Kelly said the historic matchup was "trending up."

The Wolverines schedules are filled for the next three seasons, but have openings in 2018. Michigan would have to move around their Big 10 schedule to make the game happen, but fans from both sides would likely be happy if it happens.

Notre Dame would also have to clear up space, as they have an agreement which requires them to play five ACC opponents each season. Notre Dame still has USC, and Michigan still has Ohio State. But the season almost feels incomplete without this match up, as it has given fans tons of excitement.

Michigan leads the series 24-17-1 over the Irish, but Notre Dame won their last meeting with a crushing victory, 31-0. Michigan just came off a big win this past weekend over Oregon State, and got Harbaugh his first win in Ann Arbor. On the other side, Notre Dame is undefeated after being Virginia this weekend, but they lost their star quarterback Malik Zaire for the season.

While it doesn't look like this rivalry will be resumed anytime soon, it is interesting to hear that both coaches are for the idea, which is likely a good thing for college football and its fans.
