A new study suggests that the type of coffee a person drinks may reveal his personality.

According to a coffee company website, coffee is the most popular drink globally with more than 400 billion cups consumed per year with 100 million of the U.S population drinking a total of 350 million cups per day. An American adult consumes about 3 to 4 cups a day.

Aside from it being a daily routine of half of the American population to start their day, that cup of coffee may reveal the personality of the person drinking it. This is based on a study conducted in the U.K.

Dr. Ramani Durvasula, lead author of the study and also a clinical psychologist, gathered data from 1,000 coffee lovers using a survey which asked them about how they will handle common scenarios. There was also a part in the survey asking their coffee consumption and their preference.

After closing the survey, she compared the participants’ responses on the scenarios and linked it to their coffee preference. She then categorized them to being introvert, extrovert, patient, perfectionist, friendly, observant, sensitive, and confident.

Her analysis revealed that those who drink black coffee are usually the perfectionist types. They also prefer to live a simple life and have the tendency to be unpredictable, impatient and resistant to change.

Quite the opposite, those who prefer latte are always aiming to please the people around them. However, that is not always positive as they often get too preoccupied helping others.

Cappuccino lovers are the most controlling among coffee drinkers and are always seeking attention of others. They are also over-sensitive and very conscious about their health.

The most laid-back are those who often grab instant coffees. These are people who usually procrastinate.

The trendsetters are those who order cold and sweet coffees. The downside is that they have the tendency to be reckless.

The study may be read on the Dr. Durvasula’s book titled “You Are WHY You Eat: Change Your Food Attitude, Change Your Life.”
