Kawasaki USA has recalled 11,836 of its 2009 to 2015 Vulcan 1700 line of motorcycles due to electrical problems stemming from the ignition, according to Ultimate Motorcycling. The specific models included in the recall are the 2009 to 2015 Vulcan 1700 Voyagers and 2011 to 2015 Vulcan 1700 Vaqueros, spanning the time period of February 2, 2009 to March 20, 2015.

The recall stems from an ignition wire prone to chafing due to contact with the fuel tank, according to Consumer Affairs. This chafing can result in a short circuit and possible engine stall, which increases the risk of a crash.

Kawasaki is currently in the process of notifying owners of the aforementioned models and arranging for dealers to install shielding and padding to prevent the stalling. Any customers with bikes that possess damaged wiring will be replaced free of charge, although no notification schedule has been provided by the manufacturer as of yet.

The notice was filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), who requires that owners are notified of any safety issue within 60 days of the date that the NHTSA were told about the problem, according to Motorcycle USA.

Owners of the Vulcan and Vaquero models mentioned above can call Kawasaki's customer service number at 1-866-802-9381 for more information using recall number MC15-10.
