UPDATE: The Blue Jays hope Tulowitzki can return in 2-3 weeks.

"While there is no absolute certainty on the recovery time for Troy Tulowitzki, the Blue Jays' medical staff is 'cautiously optimistic' that he could return in action in two to three weeks, general manager Alex Anthopoulos says," writes John Lott of the National Post.

The Boston Red Sox won't make the playoffs this year, but David Ortiz has given fans a reason to keep watching. On the other hand, the Toronto Blue Jays are poised to make the postseason for the first time in 21 years, but they lost their shortstop on Saturday.

Ortiz hit two home runs on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays and became the 27th player in MLB history - and the fourth in Red Sox history - to hit 500 career home runs. Big Papi slugged both homers off Rays' starter Matt Moore.

Although the achievement came on the road, many fans at Tropicana Field applauded Ortiz.

Ortiz is now one of four Dominicans to reach the milestone, along with Sammy Sosa, Manny Ramirez and Albert Pujols. The exclusive club also includes legends Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr., Jim Thome, Frank Robinson, Mark McGwire, Harmon Killebrew, Rafael Palmeiro, Reggie Jackson, Mike Schmidt, Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Foxx, Willie McCovey, Frank Thomas, Ted Williams, Ernie Banks, Eddie Mathews, Mel Ott, Gary Sheffield and Eddie Murray.

"What can I tell you? It's a number where it's very hard to get and I've been competing and trying to get things done the right way through the years," Ortiz told Michael Kolligian of MLB.com. "All the names that you mention that are in the 500 club are legends, so to be part of it is an honor and I'm going to enjoy it."

As for the Blue Jays, the MLB's best team since the All-Star break, extended their AL East lead to 4.5 games over the New York Yankees with three wins over the Bombers this weekend. However, they could lose an important player for an extended amount of time.

Troy Tulowitzki left the first game of yesterday's double-header after colliding with center fielder Kevin Pillar in the second inning. The shortstop went for X-rays, which came back negative, but he was then for an MRI.

The Blue Jays announced later on Saturday that Tulo suffered a small crack in his scapula (shoulder blade) as well as bruises to his upper back muscles.

"It's not good news, we'll probably have a little better idea in a few days how long they might think [he's out]," manager John Gibbons told Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com. "Kind of a freak thing, it's unfortunate, but it means a couple of the other guys have a chance here to step up."

Toronto is going for a four-game sweep of the Yankees today at 1:05 p.m. ET.
