Finally the wait is over. Android and iOS users will be soon receiving the BBM app on their smartphones confirmed Blackberry, Thursday.

The decision to bring over the exclusive messaging platform to other operating systems was announced by Blackberry in May this year and it will be finally heading to Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean Sept. 21. The iPhone holders running iOS 6 and the latest iOS version will have to wait for one more day more to receive the same.

"BBM is a very engaging messaging service that is simple to use, easy to personalize and has an immediacy that is necessary for mobile communications," said Andrew Bocking, executive vice president for BBM at the press release, quoting the official blog for Blackberry. "With more than a billion Android, iOS, and BlackBerry smartphones in the market, and no dominant mobile messaging platform, this is absolutely the right time to bring BBM to Android and iPhone customers."

The BBM Chat will enable the users to send messages anytime across any platform and it also comes with voice and photo compatibility.

The user can involve multiple users (with a maximum limit of 30) to converse over BBM and share pictures and schedules on the chat window. The broadcast message allows users to reach a large number of friends or rather all the BBM contacts readily.

BBM will notify users of updates from other friends. Every BBM user is provided with a unique pin number for identification.

The official Blackberry statement reads "Later this year, BBM Channels will provide a forum for active, real conversations between you and the people, brands, celebrities, artists, service providers, communities and more, that matter to you. "

With time, the video and voice call features will also be rolled out to future Android and iOS versions. The users will be able to download BBM from its official website, reports PCmag.

Blackberry had been striving hard to resurrect its position in the market for a long time. Hopefully, the telecommunication giant will see some improvements with the launch of Blackberry Z30 and BBM  for Android and iOS users in the same week.
