Major League Baseball announced the release of the 2016 regular season schedule on Tuesday, which will begin with the year's first matchup on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball on Apr. 3 (for which the details have yet to be released), followed by Opening Day on Apr. 4.

While we are still in the middle of the exciting 2015 MLB season, it can't hurt to know what will be going on in 2016. Here are a few highlights regarding next year's schedule:

1.  The Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers and Miami Marlins will not play on Opening Day. These four teams will participate in the first interleague matchups (Cubs @ Angels and Tigers @ Marlins) of the season, which will take place on Tuesday, Apr. 5. The first full slate of games will take place on Wednesday, Apr. 6.

Additionally, the core Interleague rotation will be AL East vs. NL West, AL Central vs. NL East and AL West vs. NL Central.

2.  The 2016 All-Star Game will take place in San Diego on July 12. The All-Star break will last from Monday, July 11 until Thursday, July 14.

3.  Jackie Robinson Day is April 15 and the 2016 MLB Draft begins on June 9.

4.  The 2016 regular season concludes on Oct. 2, which will most likely be headlined by a crucial division series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants

5.  Notable 2016 anniversaries, per MLB.com: "Mookie Wilson's 1986 World Series Game 6 dribbler through Bill Buckner's legs and the Mets' championship (beating Boston in 7); the Cardinals' 2006 World Series title in the first year of the new Busch Stadium; the last repeat titles by an NL club (1975-76 Reds); a quarter-century since the Twins won it all; the 60th anniversary of Don Larsen's unmatched World Series perfect game; Enos Slaughter's "Mad Dash" in the 1946 World Series for St. Louis; the 50th anniversary of Sandy Koufax's last -- and winningest (27) -- season; and the start of the Yankee dynasty managed by Joe Torre."

It will also be the final season the Atlanta Braves play at Turner Field.
