Lawrence Lessig has met his self-imposed fundraising goal, and now he plans to launch his own campaign to become president of the United States, according to CNN.

Lessig hit his $1 million benchmark recently and plans to register his presidential bid as a Democratic candidate on Wednesday. "WE DID IT!!!" Lessig announced on Twitter.

Lessig used Kickstarter to raise $1 million for his campaign.

"We have to recognize we have a government that does not work. This stalemate, partisan platform of American politics in Washington right now doesn't work," Lessig said in an interview, CNN reported.

The cornerstone of Lessig's campaign is the Citizen Equality Act, legislation that focuses on campaign reform.

Lessig plans on using his Administration to pass the Act. Once it has done so, he will resign from the presidency.

With Lessig in the race, there are now six total Democrats running for the office, according to NPR. Currently, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is leading the polls in that race. Whoever wins the Democratic primary will run in the general election against one out of (so far) 17 Republican candidates.

Lessig is hosting a poll on his website for his running mate. Current candidates for the VP spot on the website include Jon Stewart, Hillary Clinton and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Mostly, Lessig wants to fix the corrupt political system, he says. "If you have seven other issues that you're running on, that of course you get into Washington and everybody thinks your mandate is one of this or one of that...That's not going to make it possible to take this on," he said, according to ABC News.
