In the past week there have been various rumors and reports regarding a number of MLB managers on the hot seat. Two of them include Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus and Miami Marlins manager Dan Jennings.

One of their possible successors is now rumored to be former Chicago Cubs skipper Rick Renteria, who went 73-89 last year in his only season managing the team.

"He was unceremoniously replaced by Joe Maddon in Chicago and could be in the hunt for the few managing jobs that become available. Renteria was a finalist for the job Brad Ausmus got in Detroit," writes Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. "Renteria's ability to connect with Latin players will make him a prime candidate in Miami if Dan Jennings transitions back to the front office in Miami or elsewhere."

It's unknown how new Tigers' GM Al Avila will handle Ausmus' situation. The manager is under contract through 2016, but Avila said everything and everyone will be evaluated after the season, and it doesn't help that the Tigers have fallen into last place in the AL Central.

Detroit has endured a lot of issues that weren't at all relative to Ausmus' performance as manager, but Avila might still want to hand pick a skipper of his own since Ausmus was Dave Dombrowski's choice.

As for the Marlins, at this point it's clear Jennings will be out of the dugout after 2015 and head back to the front office (if he remains with the organization). A report from last week acknowledged the straining relationship between Jennings and owner Jeffrey Loria due to the team's terrible season (similarly, a lot was not Jennings' fault).

However, Loria has shown how impatient he is and that's unlikely to change - Jennings is the team's ninth manager since 2003.

"With a wide-ranging search the expectation, though, several other prominent names are expected to come up, possibly including Dusty Baker, Bud Black, Ron Gardenhire, Bobby Valentine, Willie Randolph, Larry Bowa, Jerry Manuel, Jim Riggleman, Rick Renteria and many, many others," adds Jon Heyman of CBS Sports of the Marlins' manager search.

Jennings' fate could even come before the season ends, while the Tigers will further evaluate before making a decision on Ausmus.

But keep an eye out for Renteria as a number of managerial positions are expected to open up on or shortly after Oct. 4.
