Vancouver Police are in the middle of an investigation sparked by the discovery of a body lodged inside a storm drain in the city's east end on Sunday. Authorities received notice of the body after it was discovered by an unidentified source in the east lane of the 500 block of Kaslo Street, according to CBC News.

Authorities and the coroner soon arrived on the scene to begin an investigation, reported The Huffington Post. The Vancouver Fire Department's special operations team also participated in the investigation and retrieved the body, while Vancouver police picked up what they believe is relevant evidence from the surrounding area.

Preliminary reports indicate that the police believed that the victim may have fallen in while trying to pick up his phone, reported Global News. However, nothing is clear at the time with authorities deeming the death as "suspicious."

Spokesman Sgt. Randy Fincham said it's too early in the case to make any official statements, but promises to reveal further information to the public as it becomes available.

Investigators were on the scene for roughly five hours after the body was discovered. The area where the body was found is blocks away from the Pacific National Exhibition grounds.
