A California moving company has taken the initiative to help those in abusive relationships by offering their moving service free of charge to people who are escaping the throes of an abusive partner.

Meathead Movers has partnered with Good Shepherd, a domestic abuse non-profit agency, to pinpoint individuals in an abusive relationship and help them move out for free, making their transition a little bit easier, LA Weekly reported.

Those who are in a threatening domestic situation will be screened through the non-profit, which will then contact the moving agency if their services are deemed necessary.

Abusers often use various techniques that make it hard for their victims to move on, like isolation from friends and family and psychological manipulation, according to the LAist.

Aaron Steed, CEO of Meathead Movers, said that it was hard for him to imagine a victim of domestic abuse, and their possible children, trying to "pack up all their belongings and flee before the abuser returns home."

Steed said that they would get calls from women who were in dire need of help but could not pay because they were cut off from finances, according to Refinery29. The company, consisting primarily of young student athletes, would hurry to the residences to provide their service free of charge, but when one incident turned potentially violent, the company realized they needed help from experts to create the cleanest and safest moves possible.

With every new location the company opens in California, it partners with a domestic abuse center in that region.
