BlackBerry is set to introduce its latest 5-inch Z30 smartphone September 18, its largest ever and first to debut the upgraded OS version 10.2 along with several other impressive features to take on the competitive phablet market.

BlackBerry has no plans of giving up, at least not for now. The love for large screen devices among consumers has forced the Canadian phone maker to introduce one of its own 5-inch smartphone, hoping to regain its lost position in the business while challenging the leaders in the market. That is a pretty brave move for a company that was considering options of sale. But the latest device may also bring good luck to the company.

BlackBerry announced the latest addition to its smartphone lineup, the Z30, which is the largest BlackBerry device till date. Besides the large 5-inch Super AMOLED display, the Z30 also features faster and advanced specs than its predecessors.

The BlackBerry Z30 will follow the Z10 style, except the large screen and will debut the latest BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2. The all-touch smartphone  has a larger battery than any of its other smartphones with a promising battery life.

"The new BlackBerry Z30 smartphone builds on the solid foundation and engaging user experience of the BlackBerry 10 platform with features like the powerful BlackBerry Hub, its exceptional touchscreen keyboard and industry leading browser," Carlo Chiarello, Executive Vice President for Products at BlackBerry, said in a press release. "The smartphone rounds out the BlackBerry 10 portfolio and is designed for people looking for a smartphone that excels at communications, messaging and productivity."

Under the hood, the Z30 packs a powerful dual-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor paired with "powerful quad-core graphics". It sports an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 2-megapixels in the front. The 5-inch display features 1280 x 720-screen resolution and includes a 2880 mAh battery.

But the most noteworthy update in the BlackBerry's latest flagship smartphone is the newest 10.2 version of its operating system. The update includes features like Priority Hub, which manages priority messages across emails, social networking and other accounts to allow users to easily go through important conversations.

In addition, the notification system has been advanced to display a preview of any message that arrives on the Z30 smartphone, allowing users to tap to reply or  to dismiss immediately. For its integrated BBM app, users can reply to a message without leaving the current app. The locked screen also allows access to various apps and gives a preview of the unread messages and notifications.

While the phone maker has not gained any commercial success with its BlackBerry 10 devices, the possibility of Z30's success remains thin at the moment. But with the confidence the company is showing towards its newest device, the tables may finally turn.
