Everett Golson has been named the Florida State starting quarterback this Monday, according to ESPN's Jared Shanker. He will have some big shoes to fill as their former starting quarterback Jameis Winston led the Seminoles to consecutive perfect regular seasons (27-1 overall), including a national championship in the 2013-2014 season.

Golson is expected to play big in Jimbo Fisher's system, and he has had experience in the spotlight before. In 2012 he started for Notre Dame, and made it to a National Championship. The Irish made it there on their defense, but Golson made big plays to bring the Irish to that point.

Under the spotlight of the National Championship Golson faded and the Irish lost, 42-14, to Alabama. While Golson and the Irish lost that game, many believe his experience will prove useful for the Seminoles.

Golson improved from his first season to his second season in terms of yards and touchdowns, but he went in the wrong direction in terms of turnovers. He threw 14 interceptions last season, and will likely need to bring that number down if he wishes to have his team compete in the BCS playoff. After all, Winston took the Seminoles through the ACC undefeated, and they were still questioned to make the playoff. While Golson can't control his competition, he can control his game and that is what he will need to do.

There are believers out there though, Bill Bender of Sporting News thinks Golson can be a championship quarterback. There are plenty of negatives to point out about Golson, like his amount of turnovers, but for every one of those negative statements, there is a positive, like that he is a team player. Golson will get a chance to prove himself this upcoming season, and he will undoubtedly be compared to his predecessor Winston.
