Earlier in the season HNGN had an opportunity to speak with Logan Allen, who at the time was a high school pitching prospect for the 2015 MLB Draft. He's now excelling in the Boston Red Sox organization.

The left-hander made his first start for the Gulf Coast Red Sox (rookie league) back on July 22. He pitched only one inning - striking out one and inducing two groundouts - but it was the beginning of his impressive professional debut.

Allen, 18, owns a 1.50 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with 24 strikeouts in eight starts (24 innings) with the Gulf Coast Red Sox. He has walked only one batter over that span. Here's his complete game log for the 2015 season, provided by MiLB.com:

@ GCL Rays: 1 IP, 1 K

@ GCL Orioles: 2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H

vs. GCL Rays: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 5 Ks

@ GCL Orioles: 3 IP, 2 H, 3 Ks

vs. GCL Twins: 3 IP, 2 H, 5 Ks

vs. GCL Rays: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 6 Ks

vs. GCL Orioles: 4 IP, 2 H, 4 Ks

vs. GCL Blue Jays: 4 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 Ks

The young starter was most recently mentioned by WEEI.com in their featured Red Sox Farm Report.

"LHP Logan Allen (Boston's No. 26 prospect at MLB.com) started and pitched four innings, with a final line of: 4 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO," writes Ken Laird. "Allen, 18, faced the minimum through two with the help of a double play, before stranding two runners in the third and then allowing two runs on three hits in the fourth frame."

That outing was Game 1 of the best-of-three Florida Gulf Coast League championship, which the Red Sox won by a score of 3-2.

Allen signed with the Red Sox two weeks after he was drafted and earned a bonus of $725,000, which is the suggested value for a third-round selection (he was taken 231st overall in the eighth round out of the IMG Academy in Florida). Allen was ranked nationally heading into the 2015 MLB Draft. Baseball America and Perfect Game USA had him among the top left-handed pitchers in the country.

He's now exceeding expectations in his debut as a professional.
