Apple is gearing up to put its newest installment in the iPhone family to market on Sept. 20. With so much hype surrounding the release of the iPhone 5S with many saying that the device isn't innovative enough to match up well against some of its competitors, we wondered just how well the new smartphone from Apple stacks up against an high-end Android powered smartphone like the HTC One.

First of all, perhaps the most important thing for any smartphone customer is the price of the device. For $199 you can purchase a 16GB iPhone 5S or a 32GB HTC One. For another $100 you can get the Apple competitor at 64GB for a whopping $399. In other words, if you care about having a lot of memory in your phone and a lot of cash in your wallet, the HTC One comes out on top.

The HTC One also beats Apple's new device on battery life. The Android smartphone boasts an 18 hour battery life versus the iPhone 5S' 10 hours (480 hour standby and 250 respectively). The extra battery is surprising given the different display sizes. The HTC One sports a 4.7-inch Super LCD 3 1920x1080 469 ppi display versus Apple's 4-inch LED LCD IPS 1136x640 326 ppi display.

Where Apple really has the HTC One beat is the camera sporting an 8MP reare facing camera and a 1.2MP front-facing camera. While the HTC One's front facing camera is an improvement at 2.1MP it pales in comparison to the iPhone 5S with its 8MP f/2.2 aperture with 1.5µ pixels. The HTC One only sports a 4MP f/2.0 with 2 µ pixels.

The iPhone 5S is expected to be faster than the HTC One with its new A7 64-bit hardware. While 64-bit is a big selling point, it's possible no one will see a noticeable benefit from the 64-bit technology for quite some time. However, people won't see the technology on Android phones until Google decides to make a version of the OS that is compatible.

As for which phone you'd prefer, the HTC One boasts "BoomSound" stereo speakers while the iPhone 5S is touted as the most secure phone on the market with the new Touch ID fingerprint scanner. In other words, it will depend on your personal preference.
