New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips has been named MLS Player of the Week, according to MLSSoccer.com. This accolade follows a tremendous two-goal, one-assist performance during the league's Rivalry Week against D.C. United.

The Red Bulls pulled into second place after a 3-0 win against DC. New York is two points behind United for the first place spot in the Eastern Conference standings, thanks largely to BWP's outstanding performance. One of Wright-Phillips' goals against United is even up for MLS Goal of the Week.

New York needed a rebound after a surprising 3-2 loss to Eastern Conference foe the Chicago Fire early last week. After the surprising loss, New York's players rallied together and proved how tough the team really is by following the loss with a thrashing of their biggest rival on national television.

Wright-Phillips continues to keep pace for the Golden Boot award, for the most goals scored in MLS. After this past weekend, he now carries 13 goals and seven assists. Leading the league is Columbus Crew attacker Kei Kamara, with 18.

The Red Bulls take on Chicago again on Sept. 11. It is a chance for redemption and payback, as the Red Bulls continue to push for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. If Wright-Phillips continue to play as sharp has his recent form, New York is almost guaranteed a win.
