Police were prompted to evacuate a portion of Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey on Sunday night after a man had entered a secured hallway. The incident took place at around 7 p.m. in Terminal C when the unidentified man entered the hallway via an exit door.

Members of Customs and Border Patrol agents confronted him and he was immediately taken into police custody, Port Authority Police spokesperson Joe Pentangelo said, according to the Associated Press.

The man had a ticket for a flight at the airport, so it is still unclear as to why he decided to go through the secured hallway instead of a security checkpoint.

Pentagelo added that the man appeared "agitated" when police took him to custody and he did not understand why he was being apprehended.

Joe Manzelli, a bystander who was there to pick up his wife from the airport, said he saw the man being brought back to the screening area where he went on about how afraid he was of possibly getting shot as well as money, according to FOX News.

Terminal C was locked down and passengers had to be evacuated while police officers and sniffing dogs ran a security sweep. At around 9:30 p.m. passengers were brought back inside the terminal, according to CBS New York.
