Lionsgate has announced that it is developing a movie based off the popular video game series "Borderlands," according to TheWrap. Producers Avi and Ari Arad are attached to the adaptation of the Gearbox Software's critically-acclaimed blockbuster game.

"Borderlands" is a role-playing first-person shooter video game, Variety reported. The game is set on an abandoned planet called Pandora that was previously controlled by a mega-corporation.

The game's success comes from its smooth gameplay and the random times at which players earn weaponry, according to Mashable.

"Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. "The 'Borderlands' games don't pull any punches, and we'll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise."

Acquiring the Arad brothers as producers is a big move for the future of the adaptation. Avi is the former Marvel Entertainment CEO and is responsible for huge hits like "Iron Man," the Tobey Maguire "Spider Man" movies and the Andrew Garfield "The Amazing Spider Man" movies.

There is currently no release date set for the "Borderlands" adaptation.
