The war of words between world-class pugilists Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Ronda Rousey continued on Thursday as Mayweather, incensed at Rowdy Ronda's suggestion earlier in the week that she makes more money per second than Mayweather - while also taking a swing at his supposed illiteracy - fired back on Thursday, releasing a statement to TMZ via a "Money Team" rep.

"Big bank take little bank. Let's play and see how much money you got," Mayweather said. "Last time I checked I was #1 on Forbes. She will never be at my status. Keep trying to get publicity."

Mayweather is right, of course. Per Forbes' list of highest-paid athletes, Mayweather comes out on top. But Rousey's suggestion that she makes more per second may also be accurate. Another Forbes piece, written by Chris Smith, suggests that prior to her absolute dismantling of Bethe Correa at UFC 190, a fight she won in just 34 seconds, she really was making more money per second than Mayweather.

Of course, in the end, none of this really matters. Rousey is far and away the best female MMA fighter in the world and will defend that title against Holly Holm on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas. Mayweather, fresh off a long-awaited victory over Manny Pacquiao and long one of boxing's best, has said that his upcoming fight against Andre Berto will be the last of his career.

If nothing else, it's interesting watching to two top athletes come to figurative blows in a pissing contest over who makes more money, but it's their fists, not their mouths, that fans want to see do the talking.
