An ISIS suicide bomber used a vehicle filled with explosives to kill two Iraqi army generals and three soldiers on Thursday, military officials said.

Spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Rasool identified the two deceased generals as the deputy head of Anbar Operations Command, Staff Major General Abdulrahman Abu Raghif, and 10th Division commander Staff Brigadier General Safin Abdulmajid, according to Frace24.

Reports indicate the bomber drove the vehicle into the advancing troops north of Ramadi, the capital of Al Anbar province, killing the two generals, three soldiers and wounding 10 others.

ISIS claimed responsibilty for the attack on affiliated Twitter accounts but gave a different account of what happened, saying six fighters in four explosive-packed vehicles armed with two heavy machine guns carried out the attack, according to SFGate.

The accounts allege the operation was done to avenge the death of a local commander named Abu Radi al-Ansari.

The Associated Press could not immediately verify the authenticity of the statements issued over Twitter but did note the language and phrasing of the messages were consistent with other statements ISIS had made in the past.

This attack comes as Baghdad's forces work to regain control of the third of Iraq that ISIS captured after militants launched an offensive in June 2014, according to The Express Tribune.

Baghdad's forces have managed to regain control in two provinces north of Baghdad, but much of western Iraq, which includes Al Anbar province, still remains under ISIS control.
