David Wright returned from the disabled list last night after a four-month absence and got the party starter for the New York Mets. He cranked a home run in his first MLB at-bat since mid-April and the Mets' offense never looked back.

On any other night there would have been no need for New York to smack eight home runs and score 16 runs because Jacob deGrom was on the mound. However, the right-hander, who was 12-6 with a 1.98 ERA coming into Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Phillies, surrendered seven runs (six earned) in just 2 2/3 innings.

The Mets set a franchise record with eight home runs from Wright (1), Juan Lagares (1), Wilmer Flores (2), Travis d'Arnaud (1), Michael Cuddyer (1), Daniel Murphy (1) and Yoenis Cespedes (1). Their first seven batters each had at least two hits and an RBI in the 16-7 victory over the Phillies. The team's previous franchise record of seven home runs in a game also came at Citizens Bank Park back in 2005, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Cespedes capped off the historic night with a two-run blast in the top of the ninth inning.

New York also set a franchise record with 15 extra-base hits in the contest, which is the third-highest total in MLB history.

"The Mets became the ninth team in Major League history to have seven players homer in a game, and the 10th to pile up at least 51 total bases," adds Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. "The Mets and Phillies also tied a National League record with a combined 11 home runs on Monday night."

New York will face Philadelphia again tonight at 7:05 p.m. ET as Noah Syndergaard takes on Jerome Williams.
