Skydivers parachuted into a funeral Saturday to pay tribute to Army hero and star skydiver Corey Hood, who died following complications from a skydiving injury.

The ceremony was held on Saturday at the Butler County football field at Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio, where Hood's coffin was carried into a crowd of nearly 1,000 people, according to USA Today.

Hood served five military tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, earned two Bronze Stars and was a member of the famous Golden Knights, performing more than 200 jumps with the acclaimed team.

He died from injuries sustained after a jump at the Chicago Air and Water show went wrong, resulting in Hood colliding into another parachutist. Hood was 32 years old when he died.

Fellow servicemen and parachutists glided into his funeral at the stadium, partially fulfilling a wish Hood always had of parachuting into a Lakota football game, Cincinnati.com reported.

Team FastTrax and a solo member of the Army Golden Knights were a part of the tribute jump, according to SF Chronicle.

People who knew Hood remember him fondly as a friend and a "great soldier."

"He was highly competitive and didn't want to lose at anything," said Larry Cox, Hood's high school football coach. "I think it correlated with why he became such a great soldier."
