A one-seated fighter jet crashed onto a roadway during an airshow in England, killing seven people and injuring over a dozen others.

During the Shoreham Airshow near Brighton, the plane, believed to be a Hawker Hunter fighter jet, crashed after attempting a loop, killing seven people and wounding 15, one of which is in critical condition, according to USA Today.

"He'd gone up into a loop and as he was coming out of the loop I just thought, you're too low, you're too low, pull up," said Stephen Jones, an eyewitness to the crash.

The South East Ambulance Service said that the seven fatalities were announced dead at the scene, BBC News reported.

The roadway, called the A27, just north of the Shoreham airport, is closed going both ways, along with the interchange at Lancing. Authorities have advised that motorists use alternative routes.

Thousands of people are now unable to leave the airport, according to The Guardian.

Many on the motorway were just feet away from the tragic accident.

Dom Lawson, a driver on the A27, said that the plane passed just a few meters above his car with a deafening roar before hitting the ground and bursting into a fireball just five or six vehicles ahead.
