"Donald Trump was right" were the words of two men who assaulted a homeless man. They beat him with a metal pipe and urinated on him after, citing Trump as a source of inspiration. They believed the man was an illegal immigrant, according to CNN.

"Boston incident is terrible. We need energy and passion, but we must treat each other with respect. I would never condone violence," responded Trump on Twitter.

Trump, an American businessman with no previous experience in politics, is currently leading polls as a candidate in the Republican primary election. His platform includes strict anti-immigration policies, including the construction of a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.

Scott and Steve Leader, the accused, are being held without bond. They were on their way home from a Red Sox game when they encountered the homeless man, a 58-year-old Mexican citizen, according to U.S. News & World Report. He was treated for his injuries at Boston Medical Center, and the Leaders are facing charges of assault and indecent exposure. They pled not guilty.

"I will say, the people that are following me are very passionate. They love this country. They want this country to be great again," said Trump when told of the attack.

Trump has made incendiary remarks about Mexican immigrants in the past, likening them to "rapists" and "criminals," according to NJ.com.
